Why have Botox?

By

If your thinking about Botox, read this

If your fed up with your wrinkles, crows feet, "laughter lines" (ironic name, since theyre not at all funny!) or forehead lines, maybe you,ve thought about having some Botox?? You,ll have tried some creams and realised, as we all have, that creams don,t get rid of those kind of lines. Unfortunately, its Botox, or live with the lines.

You might be thinking, what does she know!! and quite rightly so. I,m an Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and over the past 10 yrs have consulted, I don,t know how many people on a daily basis, who are fed up with the lines and wrinkles. Allow me to explain some common queries.

If you want to know, can Botox make you line free, even if your heavily lined? Yes, it can. you,ll find that after the first treatment, you,ll see that your lines begin to soften after about 4 or 5 days, becoming progressively better up to a fortnight after. you should get at least a 60% improvement. Most Practitioners advise a check up 2 weeks, post treatment, where you may receive a free top up. Sometimes you may have slight movement above 1 brow and not the other. which is easily fixed. you may get slight "spocking" above the brows, which is also easily fixed. Apart from that, you can expect a line free forehead and reduced crows feet for 3 months.

Side effects can include: headaches for a few days, sore throats, flu like symptoms and rash. I have to say, I,ve never had any side effects and have only heard of a few people who get mild headaches.

Many people associate "eye droop" with botox. I,ve never actually seen anyone have this in 10yrs, but in theory, it could happen, if botox was placed too low on the forehead. All Practitioners are aware of safe application and I,ve never heard of any serious complications, other than the odd occasion where a bruise occurs after a treatment to treat crows feet, just because its a veiny area, some more than others. Its extremely unlikely to get a bruise on the forehead following botox treatment.

Some people ask, "will the lines come back worse, when it wears off? and do you wake up one day and your wrinkles are back? No and no. you,ll notice after about 3 months that you begin to have movement again. Practitioners don,t like to re do your botox less than 3 month intervals. If you decide not to have it again, over time you,d revert back to the way you looked before.

What kind of qualification do you need to administer botox? well, this is hard to believe, but there is,nt a law in the UK to stop just about anyone giving botox, but the Practitioner needs a prescription which has to be written by a Dr, Dentist or Nurse Practitioner.

If you feel that you,d like a botox treatment, go to a medical practitoner, who you feel can answer your questions and make you feel safe. they will take a thorough medical history and discuss realistic treatment outcomes with you. Don,t go to someone because theyre the cheapest! word of mouth recomendations are the best way to find a Practitioner who you can build a good trusting relationship with.

Wishing you a Happy New Face!!
